Health Office Alert

Alert for parents of current 6th grade students for

7th grade entry commencing August 2018

California state law requires all entering 7th grade students provide proof of a Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) booster immunization by the FIRST DAY of 2018-19 school year. In 2013 there were 29 confirmed cases of pertussis (whooping cough) in Butte County.  The vaccine is important to protect your child and also others in the community, especially infants under the age of 1 year who are too young to receive the vaccine. If you choose to exempt your child from the immunization requirement you will need to submit a parental waiver form signed by you and a health care provider.

Do ALL entering 7th grade students need to get the pertussis immunization?
Yes. Unless they have an exemption, all students going into 7th grade must have proof of having had the Tdap booster shot. This includes current students, new students and transfer students in both public and private schools. Many students have already received the vaccine and simply need to supply proof to the school, so check with your doctor or provider.  Under current law, schools do not have the option to provide a grace period. All entering 7th grade students will need to show proof of Tdap immunization or submit an exemption before starting the 2018-19 school year.

Please send a copy of the booster shot record to DIS office when it is completed.  Questions? Call the health office at 895-4697 ext 224, or check this website:
